If you’ve been looking for your next great trading card game — or maybe a reason to dig deeper into the competitive TCG scene — this is your sign. Flesh and Blood, the fantasy action TCG from New Zealand-based Legend Story Studios, is having one of its biggest moments ever, and there’s no better week to pay attention than this one.

What Is Flesh and Blood?

Flesh and Blood (or FaB, as the community calls it) is a competitive, head-to-head card game where each player takes on the role of a hero — a unique champion with their own class, talent, and playstyle. Think warriors, wizards, rangers, and more, each with signature weapons, equipment, and action cards that form the backbone of your deck.

Unlike many TCGs, FaB has no life-gain spiral — every game has a tight, action-packed clock, and the decision-making around blocking, pitching cards for resources, and timing your big attacks makes for deeply strategic and interactive gameplay. It’s designed from the ground up for competitive play, but it’s also a blast for kitchen table games and sealed formats.

This Weekend: The Calling: Shanghai (April 3–5)

The FaB competitive season is in full swing. This very weekend, players from across Asia and around the world are gathering in Shanghai for The Calling: Shanghai — one of Legend Story Studios’ premier open-entry events. Held at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, The Calling offers a $20,000 USD prize pool in Classic Constructed, along with Professional Tournament Invitations (PTIs) and coveted Gold Foil prize cards. This is high-stakes FaB played at its best.

Next Week: Pro Tour Yokohama (April 9–12)

Hot on the heels of Shanghai, the biggest FaB event on the 2026 calendar — Pro Tour: Yokohama — takes place at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan. This is a qualifier-only event where the world’s best Flesh and Blood players compete for a $200,000 prize pool, Champion Stamped Prize Cards, and the title of Pro Tour Champion.

The event features two formats: Classic Constructed — the flagship format where players build 80-card decks around a chosen hero — and Silver Age, a rotating format that limits which heroes and sets are legal, keeping the meta fresh and giving newer heroes a chance to shine.

With $200K on the line and the world’s top players assembled, Pro Tour Yokohama is the perfect showcase of everything that makes Flesh and Blood special.

The Meta: Who’s Dominating Heading into Yokohama?

The Classic Constructed metagame heading into Yokohama is healthy and diverse — always a good sign for a competitive TCG. Here’s a quick snapshot of who’s been putting up results:

Teklovossen the Mechropotent (Mechanologist) is the format’s current top performer, sitting at a remarkable ~77% win rate online. Teklovossen is a tech-forward hero who generates incredible value through ability chains and equipment synergies — and rewards players who can master a complex sequence of decisions each turn.

Arakni, the spider-themed Assassin (available in two manifestations — Tarantula and Black Widow), holds down the S-tier alongside Teklovossen, with win rates in the 62–64% range. Arakni decks thrive on disruption, forcing opponents into bad blocks and generating value through stealth and cunning plays.

Beyond the top tier, the format features a wide spread of viable heroes — Warriors, Illusionists, Runeblade specialists, and more — meaning no single strategy dominates, and pro players are putting in serious reps testing matchups before the big weekend.

Meet the New Warrior: Hala, Bladesaint of the Vow

Beyond the Pro Tour excitement, there’s a brand new hero on the horizon. On April 17, Legend Story Studios releases Armory Deck Origins: Hala — introducing Hala, Bladesaint of the Vow to the game as a fully playable Classic Constructed hero.

Armory Decks are Legend Story Studios’ way of making new heroes accessible right out of the box. The Hala deck comes loaded with a 60-card Classic Constructed deck, a Legendary equipment card, 13 Majestics, and all the tools she needs to compete immediately. Hala herself is a master swordswoman and legendary mentor — she’s Dorinthea’s trainer, the warrior who helped shape one of FaB’s most beloved heroes. Seeing her finally take the field as a playable hero in her own right is a big moment for the lore community.

Armory Deck Origins is a great entry point for new players — you get a tournament-ready deck, playable hero equipment, and a taste of competitive FaB without needing to draft or build from scratch.

What’s Next: Compendium of Rathe

Looking just slightly further ahead, FaB’s next major expansion — Compendium of Rathe — was recently revealed at the annual Keynote event. This premium expansion, the 18th set in the game’s history, features at least three rares per pack and Cold Foils approximately 1-in-8 packs — premium collector ratios that make this set a big deal for both players and collectors. It supports both Classic Constructed and Silver Age across all hero classes and talents, and includes special Antiquity Packs with reprints of desirable cards in a brand new frame treatment.

Why You Should Be Playing Flesh and Blood

Here’s the short version: FaB rewards skill in a way few TCGs can match. There’s no mulliganing into a perfect hand, no top-decking a single win condition — every card in your deck has a purpose, and your decisions across every turn matter. The game has a passionate, growing community, a robust organized play structure with real prize support, and a company in LSS that listens to and communicates openly with its player base.

If you’ve ever wanted to go deep on a TCG that rewards dedicated study and sharp in-game decision-making, Flesh and Blood is worth your time.
