Overview
Izzet Prowess is the most-played deck in Standard right now, commanding 13.2% of the metagame — nearly double the next-closest archetype. It is the purest expression of the spells-matter plan: flood the board with one- and two-mana interaction and cantrips, then convert that critical mass into damage with prowess and "magecraft"-style payoffs. Slickshot Show-Off is the marquee card — a one-mana 1/1 flyer with haste that grows every time you cast a noncreature spell and can be dashed back to dodge sorcery-speed removal. Backed by Stormchaser's Talent, Flow State, and a tight suite of burn and bounce, the deck plays like a combo-tempo hybrid: it can goldfish a turn-four or -five kill while still holding up countermagic and removal. It is fast, cheap to pilot well, and rewards sequencing — exactly the kind of deck that punishes durdling and dominates ladder play on Arena.

Strategy Guide
Early Game (Turns 1–3)
Lead on a cheap threat — ideally Slickshot Show-Off — and protect it. Opt, Sleight of Hand, and Boomerang Basics dig toward your land drops and untapped duals while pumping prowess. Don't be afraid to hold Spell Pierce for a key removal spell or sweeper. Stormchaser's Talent on turn one sets up a recurring engine: the Saga generates a 1/1 Otter that itself triggers prowess, and later chapters let you flash spells back.
Mid Game (Turns 4–6)
This is where the deck wins. With one or two prowess bodies down, chain cantrips and burn in a single turn to push a lethal swing — a Slickshot Show-Off that connects after three noncreature spells is often 5+ in the air. Flow State adds reach and card flow, and Eddymurk Crab gives you a flash blocker/threat that can be cast cheaply when you've already spent mana on spells. Sequence so each cantrip both replaces itself and pumps the team before combat.
Late Game (Turns 7+)
Against control or grindier midrange, transition to a burn-and-counter plan: use Burst Lightning (kicked), Vibrant Outburst, and direct damage to close while Spell Pierce and sideboard counters protect the last few points. Roaring Furnace // Steaming Sauna and Multiversal Passage give you mana sinks and fixing so flooding never feels dead. The deck rarely wants to reach turn ten — your job is to have already killed them.
Win Conditions & Combos
Primary kill: a hasty, evasive Slickshot Show-Off (or a Colorstorm Stallion) pumped by a burst of cheap spells in one turn, often supplemented by reach from Burst Lightning and Vibrant Outburst for the final points. Stormchaser's Talent provides a resilient token engine and spell recursion so you can rebuild after a sweeper. There's no fragile "combo" — the deck simply assembles a critical mass of cheap spells and prowess triggers faster than opponents can stabilize, then burns out the remainder.
Sideboard Guide
Bring in Flashfreeze and extra Spell Pierce against Izzet mirrors and ramp/control. Slagstorm and Sear answer the go-wide and aggressive starts (Mono-Red, Mardu Discard, Selesnya/Mono-Green Landfall). Ghost Vacuum and Soul-Guide Lantern hose graveyard recursion (Dimir Excruciator, reanimator shells). Ral, Crackling Wit is your grindy top-end against control. Broadside Barrage and Get Out add flexible removal for problem creatures and planeswalkers. Trim a couple of Boomerang Basics and the situational one-ofs when you need more dedicated answers.
Budget Notes
Premium build runs roughly $300–$340 tabletop (the shocklands — Steam Vents — and Spirebluff Canal drive most of the cost). On Arena it's a very reasonable wildcard investment since the rare-heavy slots are mostly lands. Functional budget swaps: replace Steam Vents and Spirebluff Canal with additional Riverpyre Verge plus basics; cut Multiversal Passage for Island; substitute Secret Identity and the one-of Roaring Furnace with extra copies of Opt or Burst Lightning. None of these meaningfully reduce the deck's speed — the core (Slickshot Show-Off, Stormchaser's Talent, the cantrips, and burn) is cheap.
