Deck Overview
Izzet Prowess is the undisputed #1 Standard deck this week, commanding 11.3% of the metagame with 773 tracked lists on MTGGoldfish. Built around cheap instants and sorceries that pump your creatures mid-combat, the deck kills as early as turn 3 on the play. Slickshot Show-Off, Elusive Otter, and Stormchaser’s Talent form a relentless three-card core that demands an immediate answer from every opponent.
The mana base is tight and consistent, leveraging Steam Vents and Spirebluff Canal to deploy threats as early as turn 1. If you want to win games on MTG Arena in March 2026, this is the deck to play.

Strategy Guide
Early Game (Turns 1-3)
Deploy a threat and protect it. Turn 1: Slickshot Show-Off (Plot it) or Elusive Otter. Turn 2: Cast a cheap spell to trigger prowess and attack. Turn 3: The finishing window on the play — Wild Ride or Burst Lightning to pump your creature and swing for lethal, or Stormchaser’s Talent to begin the enchantment engine.
Mid Game (Turns 4-6)
Stormchaser’s Talent takes over, generating a flying token for every spell you cast. Keep mana for Boomerang Basics to bounce problematic permanents. Stock Up refuels at instant speed. Eddymurk Crab becomes a powerful threat once your second card draw hits each turn.
Late Game (Turns 7+)
Use Into the Flood Maw to reset blockers, then attack with a pumped team. Post-board, protect Stormchaser’s Talent with Spell Pierce and Spell Snare. Ral, Crackling Wit from the sideboard is a backbreaking closer if the game goes long.
Win Conditions & Key Combos
- Primary: Slickshot Show-Off + 2-3 cheap spells = 5-9 power flying attacker on turn 2-3
- Secondary: Stormchaser’s Talent token flood — each spell generates a body, overwhelming midrange blockers
- Combo kill: Elusive Otter + Wild Ride + 2 instants = unblockable 5-power swing
Sideboard Guide
vs. Esper Midrange: +2 Spell Pierce, +2 Spell Snare, +2 Ral / -2 Into the Flood Maw, -2 Boomerang Basics, -2 Wild Ride
Force them to tap out. Spell Pierce and Snare neutralise their removal. Ral generates incremental value and must be answered immediately.
vs. Graveyard / Reanimator: +2 Soul-Guide Lantern, +1 Torch the Tower / -1 Wild Ride, -2 Elusive Otter
Exile their graveyard proactively. The best hate is killing them before they reanimate anything.
vs. Artifact Aggro: +1 Annul, +1 Fire Magic, +2 Drake Hatcher / -2 Stormchaser’s Talent, -2 Boomerang Basics
Annul hard-counters their key artifacts and enchantments. Drake Hatcher provides evasion to race their board.
Budget Notes
Full optimised list: ~$180 MTG Arena / $320 paper. Key budget swaps: Steam Vents → Sulfur Falls (minor tempo loss), Spirebluff Canal → Highland Lake (moderate — always enters tapped), Slickshot Show-Off → Monastery Swiftspear (loses Flying but still triggers prowess).
Budget estimate with all swaps: ~$80 paper / 30 wildcards on Arena. The deck remains competitive at FNM and Best-of-One ranked ladder.
