Night City just got its first real playtest in the wild. Between September 10 and 20, 2026, hundreds of local game stores across the country ran official Cyberpunk TCG Beta Events — sealed-deck tournaments built entirely around WeirdCo’s Welcome to Night City beta boosters. If you’ve been curious about this one but weren’t sure where to jump in, this week’s Spotlight is for you: what actually happened at the beta events, what’s new from Gen Con, and what’s coming next before the game hits shelves for good.

What the Beta Events actually were

Each participating store handed out a Beta Event Kit: six Welcome to Night City beta booster packs, three random additional Legend cards, a Nova Rare “Mantis Blades” promo, and a full set of polyhedral dice. Players cracked their packs on the spot, built a sealed deck right there at the table, and queued up on melee.gg for pairings — no prior collection required.

The deckbuilding rules were kept beginner-friendly on purpose. A sealed deck just needs three Legend cards (any colors, no restrictions) and a 30-card main deck pulled from up to three colors total. Constructed play uses a resource system called RAM to gate what you can afford to run, but for the beta events, WeirdCo waived RAM restrictions entirely — organizers just recommended aiming for roughly 55% sellable Programs and Gear to 45% Units, and letting your actual pulls decide your colors rather than forcing a plan.

Turnout reports from the weekend were upbeat. At one Connecticut shop’s event, players ran two rounds of best-of-three against random opponents pulled straight from their packs, and by most accounts the format did exactly what a beta is supposed to do: got brand-new players comfortable with the rules, gave Kickstarter backers their first hands-on look at cards they’d only seen in updates, and left stores optimistic about running regular tournaments once the game hits general release.

New player primer: what even is Cyberpunk TCG?

If you’re coming in cold, here’s the shape of it. Every deck is built around three Legend cards — iconic characters from the Cyberpunk 2077 universe like V, Jackie Welles, Johnny Silverhand, and Judy Álvarez — who anchor your strategy without locking you into a single color the way a lot of other games do. From there you fill out a main deck of Units (the characters and machines doing the fighting) and Programs and Gear (the tech, hacks, and hardware that support them), all paid for with an in-world currency called €$ that certain cards can also be “sold” for when you need the cash. It’s a tight, thematic system that leans hard into the source material — Netrunners hack, Rockers buff the board with noise, and Solos just hit things very hard.

Fresh off Gen Con: new cards worth knowing

WeirdCo used Gen Con 2026 to drop a wave of exclusive reveals that are now rolling into the beta and retail pools, including The Relic: Experimental Biochip, Pyramid Song, Pacifica Netrunner, and a scene-stealing new Legend printing: Johnny Silverhand, Rocking Renegade, our pick for this week’s featured art. Thirteen other fan-favorite characters — Adam Smasher, Goro Takemura, Hanako Arasaka, Panam Palmer, River Ward, Royce, V, and more — also picked up new Iconic Rare variant art, which is exactly the kind of chase-card news that gets a beta community talking.

What’s next before full launch

The beta events were step two of a longer rollout. Kickstarter fulfillment started shipping September 1, and WeirdCo’s production diary has been refreshingly candid about the logistics — cards are being manufactured by RR Donnelley, with the team running press checks, test prints, and color-correction passes in Shanghai to make sure the final product matches what backers were promised. From here, the path to shelves runs through a Welcome to Night City retail pre-release weekend on October 30, followed by the full retail launch on November 6, 2026. Beta impressions have been positive enough that a lot of stores sound ready to make Cyberpunk TCG a regular part of their tournament rotation the moment retail packs land.
