The Jeskai Lessons engine grinding out the format at 12.7% metagame share

Format: Standard (MTG Arena / tabletop) · Metagame: 12.7% metagame share — #1 deck in Standard · Featured card: Jeskai Revelation

Overview

Jeskai Lessons — often written up as “Jeskai Revelation” after its marquee payoff — is the deck to beat in Standard right now, sitting at the top of the metagame at roughly 12.7% of the field. It’s a true control deck wearing the Lesson package: cheap, flexible Lesson instants and sorceries that cantrip, remove, or protect, all feeding card-advantage engines and the format’s best top-end spell, Jeskai Revelation. It’s fully Arena-legal — clean three-color control.

The plan: trade one-for-one early, bury the opponent in cards with Accumulate Wisdom, Stock Up, and Gran-Gran, then land Jeskai Revelation to swing the game for good.

Strategy Guide

Early (turns 1–3): Survive and set up. Lead on cantrip Lessons — Firebending Lesson, Accumulate Wisdom, Abandon Attachments — and hold Combustion Technique or It’ll Quench Ya! against aggro. Turn-one Gran-Gran keeps the engine flowing and blocks.

Mid (turns 4–6): Take over. Stock Up and repeated Lesson cantrips dig toward payoffs; Tablet of Discovery turns spare mana into steady advantage.

Late (turns 7+): Jeskai Revelation answers the board, refills your hand, and usually ends the game. You almost never run out of gas.

Sideboard Guide

  • vs. Aggro: Day of Judgment and Price of Freedom reset go-wide starts.
  • vs. Control/Midrange: Spell Pierce, Stoic Sphinx, and Ral, Crackling Wit win the card-advantage race.
  • vs. Graveyard/Reanimator: Ghost Vacuum and Soul-Guide Lantern hate out recursion.

Budget Notes

The full list runs about $260–290 tabletop. Trim a Jeskai Revelation to three, lean on Great Hall of the Biblioplex plus basics, and use Day of Judgment for pricier sweepers. On Arena it’s very rare-wildcard friendly.
